Hunter Marine Wind Rose

May 27, 2013 by Abby

Our Hunter 40 Legend, WindRose, was perfect for our five-day Sailstice cruise.  We sailed, we motored, we motor-sailed.  We stayed in marinas, we anchored out.  We were alone, we had guests.

My husband and I had a relaxing sail to Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, joining the Hunter Sailing Association’s Sailstice celebration.  Docking in downtown Baltimore’s a blast!

My nephew and his family joined us on Saturday, turning WindRose into an air-conditioned condo.  We baked an artichoke appetizer, grilled burgers, and walked to the Oriole’s baseball game.  WindRose comfortably slept the 6 of us.

On Sunday we sailed in light air to the buoy marking where Francis Scott Key penned the Star Spangled Banner.  Back at the marina, the Pride of Baltimore was taking up most of the fuel dock.  With WindRose s good maneuverability, we tucked behind the tall ship and dropped off our guests.  On the ride home my nephew explained the story behind the red, white and blue buoy to his children.

With our trusty Yanmar turning at 2700 rpm, we hurried to Sunday’s anchorage.  Finally on Monday the wind kicked up to twenty-five knots as we sailed our last leg – a great way to end our cruise.
